Our youth and community programmes advocate the needs of some of the most vulnerable and marginalised individuals, and we continually pilot new and innovative projects that engage young people and communities in activities and opportunities for personal development. We also operate a sports and fitness centre (The Y Club) and a subsidiary company the Castlefield Hotel on the same site in Castlefield.

Manchester YMCA is looking for the next strategic and visionary leader to join our independent charity. Working across our 3 programme areas (Leisure, Hospitality, and Youth & Community), our aim is to serve those communities and provide opportunity for development in Body, Mind and Spirit.

 

About the Organisation

The Manchester YMCA was established in 1846 to provide health and wellbeing services to a growing urban population. Now based in the historic Castlefield basin, as well as the Y Club leisure facilities the YMCA runs Youth & Community programmes that help improve the lives of disadvantaged young people throughout Manchester and Salford. Our trading subsidiary, the Castlefield Hotel, is on the same site offering 48 rooms of quality hotel accommodation together with bar and conference facilities. We have 45 employees and a turnover of £2.5m.

Job Description

As the Chief Executive Officer, you will oversee the operations of the organisation, providing strong leadership and ensuring that commercial and financial objectives are met.

As the public face of the organisation, you will be responsible for developing existing and building new relationships along with developing and expanding current services.

The successful candidate is required to have:

  • the desire to work with the Trustees to develop and deliver on the Manchester YMCA vision and strategy
  • previous experience of working in a leadership role, with proven decision-making responsibility
  • a collaborative management style to motivate, develop and support the team
  • the strategic vision to enhance existing and create new and sustainable revenue streams
  • strong communication skills and be capable of building enduring external relationships/partnerships to enhance Manchester YMCA’s brand

 

It would be advantageous if you have experience of:

  • managing successful business operations
  • working in partnership with local authorities
  • an understanding of safeguarding and health and safety in a regulated environment
  • being involved in community support initiatives

Maternity cover for P.E. Teacher (English as a second subject)

About the role

We are looking for someone who is passionate about teaching and is either a qualified PE Teacher who can deliver English as a second subject (preferable), or a qualified English Teacher who has a keen interest in, and experience of, coaching sport.

 

The successful candidate is required to have:

· A recognised teaching qualification e.g. QTS. QTLS, PGCE, PGDE, PTTLS, DTTLS.

· Emotional resilience and the ability to deal with challenging behaviour.

· Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with vulnerable children and young people.

· Understanding and appreciation of working with the care system, and a passion to increase social mobility for the most marginalised.

· Experience and understanding of SEND.

· Motivation to work with vulnerable children and young people.

· A team player with good people skills and a high level of enthusiasm and commitment.

· Enthusiastic, self-motivated, target driven and organised.

· Excellent communication skills and able to cooperate effectively at all levels.

· A strong commitment to safeguarding children and young people, complying with our organisations Safeguarding Policy and procedures

· You should hold a current DBS, preferably registered on the update service, or be willing to get a DBS processed by YMCA Manchester.

PE/Sport Teaching Assistant

About the role

The Education Department is looking for an enthusiastic individual to work with us on a Friday as a Teaching Assistant. Initially it would be for 5 hours a week on a Friday; depending on the number of students referred to the YMCA the hours could be extended. The majority of your time will be spent working on a one-to-one basis however you may be expected to take some small groups to aid lower ability.

 

Experience

· Previous experience of working with children in an educational setting is essential.

· You should be a hardworking and reliable Sports Coach who is willing to complete the supporting role as required.

· Level 2 coaching qualification or above in your chosen specialist sport is required as a minimum.

· Experience of leading a range of sporting activities to children and young people.

· You should hold a current DBS, preferably registered on the update service, or be willing to get a DBS processed by YMCA Manchester.

 

Suitability

· Motivation to work with vulnerable children and young people.

· Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with vulnerable children and young people.

· Emotional resilience and the ability to deal with challenging behaviour.
